Others find it trickier to find a song which sums up how they feel.

Music is all about emotional connections.
These connections are not just from having good times on the dance floor.
It could be from the album you couldn’t stop playing when you met, as songs have the ability to take you back to a different time or place.
A few artists have certain life moments in mind when they compose albums.
Ed Sheeran usually has a couple of wedding songs within each album.

Back In 2020 Spotify released a list of the most popular first dance songs based on playlists made through their service.
Here are the Top 5 songs:
- Christina Perry A Thousand Years
- Lonestar Amazed
- John Legend All Of Me
- Train Marry Me
- Adele Make You Feel My Love
You’re probably thinking why isn’t Ed Sheeran in there. Don’t worry, he featured at no. 6 and no. 9!
The positions of Lonestar and Train suggest the lists are American but Christina Perry, John Legend and Adele are songs we hear lot’s in the UK.
We often see brides post online seeking advice on what others have selected for their first dance.
Sometimes this will help them put together a playlist and try them out for suitability.
Here’s all the first dances we played in 2022 and so far in 2023.
The top 15 have come up more than once and the no.1 has featured over 5 times.

We advice you listen to the meaning of a song before having it as your first dance.
There is no doubt “Someone Like You” by Adele was the song of 2011 and lot’s chose it as there first dance not realising it was a song about breaking up.
Also in 2011, Jamie Lawson released a song about unexpectedly falling in love.
It could have been be the perfect song for a first dance if it wasn’t for the sad ending.
So with a little bit of creative editing we remixed the final section of the track.
Their “Happily Ever After” version of “I Wasn’t Expecting That” is now in our music collection.
We often make bespoke first dance edits for our clients.
They start with a stripped-back version of a song and transition into the dance version.
Edits like this provide the ideal point for your guests to join the dance floor.
Previously we’ve shortened down longer songs so couples have less time in the spotlight.

It surprises us when young couples choose older wedding classics.
Only the other day Sam and Sean picked “Endless Love” by Lionel Richie & Diana Ross from 1981.
Al Green “Let’s Stay Together” is another timeless classic often asked for.
Sometimes updated cover versions of classics are chosen, like “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”.
Well known versions of the Elvis classic include Haley Reinhart and Kina Grannis from the movie Crazy Rich Asians.

The dancefloor was busy all evening which was exactly what we were aiming for!
We used Berkshire Event DJs for our wedding at the Elvetham Hotel, and couldn’t recommend them more. Simon made the organisation effortless and was very quick to answer any of our questions. It was also possible to suggest plenty of songs that we were keen to hear. On the evening our DJ was fantastic and our guests loved the music. Slick, seamless mixing of all our favourite tunes.
What a wonderful time! We chose Berkshire Event DJ’s for our wedding based on recommendations from the venue.
